Community Forum: Aging and the Meaningful Life

Albany Guardian Society, in partnership with Capital District Senior Issues Forum, invites you to attend a community forum entitled, Aging and the Meaningful Life. The forum will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany, New York, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Check-in starts at 8:00 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be available. At every stage of life, we are presented with opportunities for growth. This program will explore how seniors come to value the many opportunities for spiritual growth and community engagement that come with aging. The program will also share how our faith communities can better value, encourage and assist seniors in their journey. Our program will include a keynote address and presentations by seniors who are creating a meaningful "third phase of life" by sharing their lives and the wisdom they have gained. There will also be an opportunity for individual discussion on developing a meaningful life. The keynote speaker will be Sr. M. Peter Lillian Di Maria, O.Carm, BA, LNHA, Director of the Avila Institute of Gerontology, Inc. The program's panel of speakers discussing how they engage in a meaningful life will be:

  •  Lynne Crimi, Deacon, Christ Church of Ballston Spa
  •  Anne Decker, author and contributor to WAMC
  •  Milton ("Mack") McPherson, artist
  •  Benjamin Mendel, Jr., retired architect and family man

In addition, the book Pilgrimage into the Last Third of Life: 7 Gateways to Spiritual Growth will be available for the discounted fee of $5.00. Authors Jane Thibault and Richard Morgan suggest approaching and living your senior years as a journey full of purpose and ripe with opportunities for spiritual growth.  We hope you will be able to attend this community forum. While there is no charge to attend, registration is required by July 10, 2016. You may register in one of three ways:
